NeuroSense featuring the VP Quality and Compliance

“It wasn’t until I started working at NeuroSense that I realized how much my life has been affected by ALS. When I was eleven years old, my grandfather passed away from the condition, and this personal experience has been a significant motivator in my professional journey.” – Yael Barak, VP Quality and Compliance

Two years ago, I joined NeuroSense. I was eager to contribute to a driven team with a big mission to improve the lives of those like my grandfather. I took on the role of creating the Quality Management System from scratch, and have been developing and supervising it ever since. I strongly believe that having our own quality assurance rather than relying on a contractor is essential because we are the ones with the personal motivation to verify that we are always meeting the best standards. My job specifically involves ensuring that we follow all applicable legal regulations and appropriate procedures throughout every step of our work. This is especially significant as we transition from one clinical phase to another, wherein more advanced phases necessitate more rigorous quality management. For example, I am constantly making sure that all of the work at NeuroSense complies with all the relevant good practice guidelines (GxPs). Internally in NeuroSense, I am responsible for educating and updating all of the employees on the quality requirements and expectations and giving them all the tools they need to do their work at the highest standards. I oversee that everything is running smoothly and according to protocol, that all work is documented, and that any deviations from procedures are reported.

Being the sole responsible employee for quality assurance at NeuroSense is a lot of responsibility. Contrary to big pharma, where I had previously worked, I independently created the Quality Management System at NeuroSense, a system that is usually an integral and substantiated part of any big pharma company. In a big pharma company, there is an employee for every expertise, eliminating the need for a contractor or other outside help. In a small biotech start-up like ours, there is a lot of multidisciplinary work and cooperative efforts to provide that expertise at the highest quality. There is always a need to move fast to prevent wasting time and money.

While being a small team comes with its challenges, it is actually what excites me most about working for NeuroSense—we are a small team doing big things, and I am always gaining new knowledge. Ultimately, to do work of only the best quality requires the utmost cooperation and teamwork. I believe that teamwork fosters the unimaginable.
